The Magic of Product Development with Megan Carfagno

von Drehle’s dispensers have a reputation for combining durability and efficiency with style and convenience. And with us, you’ll always get exactly what you need, when you need it.

Although it may feel like it sometimes, it’s not magic that makes that happen — it’s thanks to the hard work of people like Megan Carfagno, our Product Development & Dispenser Manager.

Megan is responsible for nearly everything having to do with our dispensers — she makes sure we have them in stock, develops new dispensers and works on private label dispensers with our customers. From managing relationships with our suppliers to working with our sales and marketing teams, Megan understands what needs to happen so we have the right things in stock for our customers. Wearing many hats, she also works on product development for our paper products.

This role means Megan works with many different departments and teams across von Drehle, from our corporate offices to our plants. “It’s fun,” she says, “and no day is the same. I get to talk to lots of different people all day long and there’s always new situations coming up, which keeps it interesting.”

The Best Part is the People

Interacting with so many different people is Megan’s favorite part of the job, and it’s what brought her to von Drehle in the first place. She knew Danielle Cannon, our Director of Marketing, and Jason Gscheidmeier, Chief Operating Officer, from the community and heard really good things about the company and the people who work here. That’s what initially drew her to von Drehle, and her impression hasn’t changed: “The best part is the people. I honestly think that’s like 95% of your job, it’s the people you work with. Everybody from our suppliers to the people in the corporate office to our warehouses and plants has been amazing.”

“Everyone really cares about each other, genuinely,” Megan explains. When one of the women in the corporate office recently got married but didn’t need typical wedding things like dishes or towels, the office banded together with a more personal gift: a donation to the hospital where the bride’s mom received treatment for cancer before passing from the disease.

That sense of caring extends to our community too. Megan is one of many at von Drehle collecting toiletries for local middle school students. The Meeting Their Basic Needs program connects underserved kids with basic hygiene supplies and school counselors who can advise on their use.

Staying Ahead of the Curve

Megan is also working on some new product launches and recently met with our biggest dispenser supplier. “It’s great to have that kind of a partnership where we can say this is the next thing we need and get ahead of the curve,” she says, adding “Our customers know when they are going to get a dispenser from von Drehle, it’s going to work and do what it needs to do.”

Megan with her husband Jon

Outside of work, Megan’s life is centered  on her two boys, aged 5 and 8. Together with her husband Jon, they spend a lot of time exploring the Hickory area through hiking and biking. Our location so close to the mountains is one of Megan’s favorite parts about working for von Drehle, but an added bonus is that her kids “think it’s really cool that I work at a place that makes toilet paper.”
